Our HR and H&S manager Helen Twomey is running the London Marathon this month in support of Pancreatic Cancer UK in memory of her grandad Colin Tipson, who sadly died of pancreatic cancer.
Helen has been training hard for the 26.2 mile course, which is a real test of endurance for participants.
The marathon takes place this year on April 23rd. Founded in 1981, the event is the second largest annual road race in the UK (after the Great North Run which is held in Newcastle). The course is mostly flat and is based around the River Thames. It begins in Blackheath and finishes at The Mall.
The race has a significant charity aspect, and has been credited with raising over £1 billion since it was started 42 years ago.
This is an exciting time for the London Marathon, as it’s the first time the race has returned to its usual Spring date since the disruption of the Covid-19 pandemic forced organisers to hold the race in October from 2020-2022.
Grace Tipson, CEO and founder of iLECSYS, says:
“Helen was only advised a couple of months ago that she had a place and has been training ever since. Most people have 6 months to prepare so… we are all going to cheer Helen on. Help support this good cause by donating on her page.”
Everyone at iLECSYS wishes Helen all the best with her race. You can sponsor Helen here:https://2023tcslondonmarathon.enthuse.com/pf/helen-twomey
