Lovato have added three new contactors to their range, in an all-new construction size. The new contactors are rated 160A, 195A and 230A in AC-3 (for motor control applications) and 250A, 275A and 350A in AC-1 (for lighting and other similar applications).

These contactors will replace the old contactor codes starting 11B of similar ratings. While the old ones have been reliable and robust over the years, the new ones are a nifty redesign which are more energy efficient, saving you money on running costs, and more compact, saving space in your enclosures.

Designed to fit into smaller spaces, the 3-pole contactors are only 105mm wide, like the equivalently rated moulded case circuit breakers (MCCB), so the starters are more compact and easier to be connected.

The BF160, BF195 and BF230 contactors have an AC/DC coil that is controlled electronically, which offers a highly reduced power consumption and a wide range of nominal voltage range. (e.g. just one coil option for 100…250V AC/DC). This ensures operation with certainty, even under strongly varying supply voltage conditions.

On the 3-pole contactors, up to 6 low profile front-mounted auxiliary contacts can be mounted, while the 4-pole contactors can support up to 8 auxiliary contacts, making wiring quick and easy.

In addition to the auxiliary contacts themselves, a wide variety of accessories are available to work alongside the contactors, enabling you to assemble panels efficiently. There are power terminal shrouds, isolating phase barriers, terminal enlargement kits to connect large wires and lugs, and connection kits for assembling changeover, reversing and star delta starters.

A horizontal mechanical interlock can be mounted flush between the two contactors, without increasing the size of the overall assembly, and there is also available in a vertical version.

Fixing holes are easy to access and the terminal screws can be tightened with a single tool, making it convenient to install.

There is also a mechanical indicator mounted to the front of the contactor which indicates whether the contactor is open or closed.

As standard, the coil power terminals are installed at the top of the contactor, but these can be easily mounted to the bottom by a simple operation if preferred. To reduce waste, the coils and power contacts are available as spare parts and can easily be replaced when needed. Saving money than buying a whole new contactor.

These contactors are also suitable for railway applications, as these BF160, BF195 and BF230 are compliant with regulations for operation under shock and vibration (EC 61373) and the plastics used in these contactors are compliant with EN45515 (fire safety regulations), as well as being cULus certified.
